Choosing An Accommodation For Your Next Kauai Vacation

by Alfred Lancer

If you have chosen Kauai as your desired Hawaii vacation destination, you are way ahead of the game. Now you must decide between a condo, home or hotel room. This can be confusing without properly understanding the amenities each type of property has to offer.

First, let’s consider Kauai Condos. Here you will find more space than traditionally available than hotels, which can be important if you are a family traveling or if you simply value your privacy. These condos often have one or more bedrooms, living rooms, and full kitchens. With this type of arrangement you have more flexibility than afforded you with a hotel room, giving you the opportunity to prepare your own meals if you wish or simply relax in comfort.

Kauai Vacation Home Rentals are even bigger than condos, offering more space to spread out. This can also be an important advantage for traveling families who may find themselves cramped in hotels or even in condos. Many such home rentals also offer washer and dryer facilities, an important consideration for extended vacationers who do not wish to use Laundromat or dry cleaner facilities.

Honeymooners or couples traveling to the island for a romantic getaway will delight in the complete and utter privacy made available through a vacation home rental. Enjoy a completely private dinner by candlelight while watching the reflection of moonlight on the ocean, all from the privacy of your own oceanfront dining room.

Both of these types of accommodations are generally less expensive than hotels. In fact, many visitors are frequently surprised by the affordability offered by Kauai vacation home rentals. They are also great for families seeking additional privacy. This option is popular with multiple couples who can share rooms in these rentals to further cut expenses, as well as families who choose the island as an exotic backdrop for their next family reunion.

In addition, while many people may be attracted to the daily rates available at hotels and be turned off by mandatory weekly rates for some vacation rentals, it is important to note that this is not always the case. In fact, many properties available through Kauai vacation rentals are available with both very affordable daily rates as well as weekly rates. Not planning to stay an entire week? Book a condo, bungalow or home rental with a daily rate instead and take advantage of the numerous amenities available only through a vacation rental.

Beyond the affordability factor, vacation rentals present travelers with the freedom and comfort of home, all located in an atmosphere that is relaxing, beautiful and perhaps most importantly, private. Whether you’re looking for a beachfront villa, private oceanfront luxury home, ocean view resort condo or a quaint Kauai cottage or bungalow, you can take advantage of all the many amenities offered through Kauai vacation rentals.

Business travelers are not immune to the benefits offered through vacation home rentals, either. With the availability to conduct business and conferences in private along with private lanais for entertaining while enjoying sweeping ocean and mountain views, many business travelers feel this provides a perfect blend of amenities and privacy.

Kauai Hotels have more elaborate lobbies, grounds and pools. There are generally shops and restaurants in the hotel and they have daily maid service and a bellman to help with luggage.

One thing to note; however, is that Hotel facilities such as the Spa, golf and restaurants are available to everyone, even if you are not staying there. In addition, many condo and vacation home rentals are also available with similar amenities as hotels, including access to fabulous golf courses and spa services. Through arrangements with property managers you may also be able to schedule regular maid service for your vacation home rental as well, taking the worries and hassles of picking up after yourself while on vacation completely out of your hands. With the wide variety of restaurants available on the island, preparing meals in your vacation rental is truly an option you can either take advantage of, or if you wish you can instead try a delicious new restaurant each day of your stay.

Finally, an advantage many hotels cannot usually offer that is often available with vacation home rental is the availability of private beach access. When staying in a hotel you are at the mercy of public beach access; and while this is certainly fine for many vacationers, others prefer a more intimate and private atmosphere in which to enjoy the fantastic sunsets and ocean views. Kauai vacation home rentals provide this amenity, allowing you to truly relax in comfort and privacy.

A visit to Hong Kong Island. You will see floating restaurants, open markets and fireworks.

Here are a couple of interesting videos on Asia Travel Hong Kong Island. There is a lot to see here including Aberdeen with the floating restaurants, Stanley Market and a giant escalator to Victoria Peak. It’s interesting to see that a lot of these stops have retained their English names.

China is a very diverse country to explore with many attractions like the ‘Peking Man’ the ‘Mogao Grottoes’ and of course ‘The Great Wall Of China’. China is home to 56 ethnic groups, each one with its own unique history and cultural backgrounds.

The video below is Kowloon at night. This is the waterfront where you can view the lit up boats and buildings located on Hong Kong Island. Also included is a laser show and fireworks display on Hong Kong Island celebrating the tenth anniversary of the hand over of Hong Kong to China.

China has many great travel destinations and it would take many trips to see it all. I for one would head straight for the Great Wall Of China. Truly one of the greatest construction accomplishments in the history of the world, the Great Wall runs for 6700 kilometers (4163 miles) across the entire country of China through deserts, grasslands, mountains, and plateaus with a approximate height of 15-20 feet, and a width as much as 25 feet.

Of course after seeing all these interesting videos on Asia Travel Hong Kong I would love to go there and take in all the great culture as well.

The 'Beijing Best Hotel' is in the middle of the city and offers a single room for under 50 dollars U.S. per night. Finding a cheap china hotel can be accomplished by searching the Internet.

From the ‘Beijing Best Hotel’ here is an example of a traditional style small room with a single bed. The price is 49.00 U.S. per night.

I found this hotel on the Internet by searching for “cheap china hotel” with quotes. This will find you the “exact phrase” in the search results.

Cheap China Hotel

It offers an LCD Television, independent bathroom and free wireless Internet. Located in the center of Beijing, 30 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the nearest subway.

Personally I would stay here because of the clean look the pictures depict and the location. There are many tourist sites close by and the subway could be your best bet to extending your boundaries and how far you want to venture from your home base.

Tiananmen Square is just over 6 km (3.6 mi.) away. Close to the square is the China World Trade Center. There is also the Grandview Garden and Beihai Park to name a few great spots to check out.

Not too far away is the ‘Forbidden City’ see the video below. The video comments say you need at least a day to see it all.

I hope this information gave you a better idea on finding a place to stay in China. It’s important to see actual photos on what a typical cheap china hotel looks like.

Some basic facts on passports and the importance of having one.

U.S. Passport

If you have travelled abroad then this is an easy question to answer but you would be surprised to know that many Americans do not know what a passport is or the importance of having one for travelling outside of U.S. borders.

The United States being the size it is allows many of it’s citizens to live freely without caring what goes on with the rest of the world. Since there is so much to see and do many Americans never leave the country. There is a conservative estimate out there that 75% of the American population do not own a passport.

So let’s get down to basics, according to the United States Department Of State “a passport is a document issued by a country to a citizen of that country, allowing that person to travel abroad and re-enter the home country”. That is the official government definition.

All the countries of the world issue their own passport. Everyone around the world venturing out across their home borders must have this document if they have any hope of getting anywhere.

So what is inside a passport? The passport booklet is 3 inches by 5 inches. The first pages have your identification and a photo of yourself. Your other personal information is also in this section including your birth date, birth place, where the passport was issued, when it expires and the passport number.

The passport is not valid until you sign it. They are valid for ten years in the states for adults and five years for children under 15 years of age. The back pages are exit and entry stamps that get a stamp every time you leave and come back home.

Your passport is checked when you fly out of country by the airline you are flying with. When entering a new country your papers are checked over by the immigration officer. They usually stamp your passport with a date stamp. There are time limits when visiting a foreign country (on average 30 days) unless you apply for an extended visit. The date stamp marks the beginning of that time period.

When you leave a foreign country the immigration officer will stamp you out once again. The date stamps are great reminders of where and when you travelled abroad. If you have never seen another country and plan on getting started, the first thing you will need is a passport. Happy Travels!

Some easy airport security tips you can follow when going through the screening process.

The Airport Wait

Here are some quick airport security tips you should know that frequent flyers carry out all the time. Follow these easy steps and literally fly through security like an expert traveller.

1. Empty your pockets of loose change.

2. Get your wallet and cell phone out and place them in the bin provided.

3. Remove heavy watches, bracelets, belt buckles and any other metal possessions. Place them in your carry on bag or in the bin.

4. Pack up your reading material and snacks before to save time unloading and packing up after the screening.

5. In the U.S. you have to take off your shoes. Wear the slip on style or untie your shoes ahead of time.

6. Have your one liter/quart plastic bag with your liquids, creams and gels out of your carry-on and in the bin.

7. Each liquid should be 3 ounces/100ml or less.

8. You can not have any loose liquids in your carry on bag.

9. Medical type liquids or baby food are allowed (most countries) outside your plastic bag but notify the screening officer.

10. Place your belongings in the bin using a proper order. This will save you a lot of time.

Here is the best strategy to use:

*Put your coat, shoes and carry on bag in the first bin. They will come through the x-ray first and you can start putting the items back on while waiting for the rest of your goods to be checked.

*If you have a laptop, put the laptop carrying bag through screening first and have it ready for your laptop to be loaded up when it comes through.

*If you are going to take a bunch of time to put on your shoes, move to one side with your belongings so you do not jam up the security line.

*You do not want to annoy any of your fellow travellers and there are usually places to the side where you can get your self back in order.

*Airports report that almost 50% of security jam ups are caused by people not moving to one side and dressing at the end of the conveyor system in front of everyone else.

Be prepared and have a plan.

You will will come across as a savvy traveler who is considerate to other fellow tourists. These airport security tips will make your security screening process easier and trouble free. Happy travels on your next vacation destination

Cruise Vacation

Do you need some help packing for a cruise? Packing for a normal vacation is easy but when you are packing for a cruise there are some ground rules that you will need to keep in mind.

You shouldn’t pack lightly and expect to be able to pick up anything else you will need on board. Whilst you will find some of the things you are looking for like toiletries and even some clothing, a lot of the merchandise will be overpriced and may not be exactly what you want.

Depending on whether the cruise is formal or casual or a mix of both depends on what types of clothes you need to pack so it is important to check before hand. If your cruise is formal it is good to remember that this generally means “semi-formal”. In which case you can leave your tuxedo and ball gown at home and bring a nice cocktail dress and suit instead. If you dress as if you were going to a nice church wedding you will do well. If you don’t feel like dressing up but are on a formal cruise then you have several options; you can order room service, eat at different times or inquire about casual meals.

Packing clothes that are lightweight wrinkle resistant and you are comfortable wearing a couple of times during your cruise is a good idea. For instance a pair of dark jeans can be dressed both up and down, the same goes for a men’s blazer and a plain black shirt can be work wit different tops and jackets for different looks.

Many cruises have self-service laundry facilities on them so it is a good idea to plan to do your laundry at least once whilst on your cruise. This is an easy way to avoid over-packing on longer cruises. Another way to cut down on the amount of clothes you have to pack is by planning to wear any souvenir clothing the you plan on buying whilst on your cruise which will save space and remove the need to “make Room” for anything purchases. It is also a good idea to buy travel-size toiletries.

It is important to pack according to the destinations of your cruise ship and what season it is. On a tropical cruise, no matter what time of year it is, you will always need to pack light cotton clothing. If you are not sure what you should pack you can ask your cruise agent what they would recommend or you can do a little research into the area and find out what type of weather it gets at that time of year.

You shouldn’t pack your most expensive items as you will worry about them getting lost or stolen during your cruise. You can leave the most expensive stuff at home and pack cheaper substitutes to bring with you. Keep all the valuable items that you have to bring with you in your carry-on this includes: cell phones, cameras, medicine, identification and money.

You will need to consult your cruise agent about any restrictions there may be with regards to your packing, as many cruise lines will not allow you to bring alcohol on board.

Find some great Cancun travel tips by watching this video put on by the New York Times.

Check out this Cancun travel tips video compliments of a New York Times reporter whose assignment was to seek out frugal weekend entertainment and hotel lodgings for under $500.00.

He found a nice room for $45.00 per night, took a ferry to a quiet semi-secluded beach, ate street side tacos and still had enough money left over to check out one of the hot night spots with a non-frugal cover charge. I found this video entertaining with some great frugal Cancun travel tips.

If you like the laid back holidays away from the crowds then you might want to watch this video and see what the narrator did to save money. It’s obvious to most seasoned tourists that the further out of town you go the savings are greater. The main hot spots and five star hotels are a little more pricy but that’s what you have to pay for the extra fun and entertainment.

Cheap travel tips to stay organized, save time and money.

There's nothing better than lying on the beach...

Unless you have money to burn and wish to go first class all the way, you can make the most out of your travels without spending a lot. It takes anticipation and plenty of practical sense to get the most mileage from your budget.

Here a few tips to keep in mind:

1. Book in advance. Don’t buy plane tickets or book an accommodation when the trip is near and you don’t have much choice but grab what’s available. When you book early you’d have time to compare prices, observe their trends, and pick the most economical ones.

2. Go during the off season. Traveling during the time tourists are expected to crowd your destination is a sure way to test your patience and jack up your expenses. When you go during the off season, you’ll enjoy a quieter time and take full advantage of discounted rates.

3. Do a little sleuthing. Spend some time to learn important information about your destination that will have a direct effect on your wallet. Find out where food is cheaper, what mode of transport will be most cost effective, and where to shop for the most bargains. With important background knowledge, you’ll save money and find your way with confidence.

4. Prepare a daily itinerary and stick to it. Spontaneity is cool, but giving in to random temptations can sap your resources all too soon. Plan your to-dos, what-to-sees, and what-to-eat and stick to them. Going with the flow, so to speak, can make you get carried away and spend more than what you can afford for the day.

5. Avoid the usual tourist traps. Sticking to the beaten path leaves you not much choice but to fork out the steep rates that they normally demand. Instead, try out the road less traveled and you’ll bump into some unexpected yet delightful surprises–for less.

6. Look out for hidden trade offs. Oftentimes, some great-sounding “bargain offers” really let you end up spending more. An example is a “nice yet amazingly cheap hotel” which, to your consternation, is located too far away that you’d have to spend a lot on transportation going back and forth. So be wary of packages that promise great savings because they could be hiding unnecessary costs.

7. Drive when you can, or use the train. Sometimes, it’ll save you a lot to just drive or take the train to your destination rather than flying. It’ll take a little longer, but why hurry? You’re on holiday, so travel at your own pace and enjoy the scenery as you go along.

8. Pack a meal. Before you start exploring for the day, pass by a supermarket and buy, say, some bread, slices of cheese, and a bottle of water. When you feel hungry, sit on a bench or the grass and enjoy the snack while admiring the beautiful landmark of the place you are currently in.

9. Get season passes, multiple-ride tickets. Transportation can be a big drain, so be smart by purchasing multiple-use tickets than paying one-way every time. In Europe, for example, it’s cheaper to buy 24-hour or 48-hour train tickets if you expect to move a lot from place to place.

Thoughtful budgeting, not mindless splurging, is the key to traveling smartly. If you keep an eye on the bottom line, you’ll be able to see more for less. choosing a discount travel destination to start with will save you the most money in the long run. Happy Traveling!

Finding Accommodations in Australia, What you can do to make it an easier task.

Accommodation In Australia Can Be Tricky

by Alfred Lancer

From experience I know that finding accommodation in Australia is a very delicate matter. Once you’ve saved the money to pay for your flying trip to Australia, you might think that nothing can come to you as a surprise anymore. (Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought). In Australia I was confronted with the brutal facts that made me realize that things aren’t that simple.

“They do things a little different down there” my grandmother said before I left. Just because they speak English in Australia doesn’t mean that you won’t be surprised once you get to the Land of Oz!

When I was there I learned that most popular types of accommodation in Australia are Australian hostels. I think this has to do with the fact that people down there travel a lot more than Americans.

A great share of the country is an amazingly beautiful and unspoiled wilderness and some places are rather remote. You can also find some kind of ruggedness in the Australian spirit that we Americans and Western Europeans have lost many years ago.

Most Australians don’t mind living in what I like to call “Spartan environments” if they can live relaxed and on the cheap, and that’s exactly what Australia hostels are all about.

They are Spartan and they are cheap. But for my family sharing one room with 15 to 20 people and having only one toilet to share is kind of frustrating. Due to these circumstances we were forced to make another decision about accommodation in Australia.

If your facts about Australia are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let this important information slip by you.

So in the end we picked a fancy Australia resort to spend the rest of our vacation. The service was excellent as I remember. At the time the choice was very simple, we had to choose between a plain old hostel/camping or a hotel.

As you can imagine we were tempted to indulge in a few nights of hotel accommodation in Australia, where we could finally enjoy our privacy and well needed soft beds to rest our tired bodies.

Because the people living down under are always on the move, it isn’t hard to find some kind of outdoor accommodation in Australia.

The only thing we took with us were our backpacks and sleeping bags because we wanted to travel light. We found it was no problem at all to find a good tent, pans, pots and things like a portable stove, and other essential camping gear for a modest amount of money.

You can easily buy all these things or even better rent them. We found that renting our gear was very convenient since we had no plans on taking all this stuff with us when our vacation was over.

There are many ways to save money on your vacation or even before you go. Read this post for some handy cheap travel tips & ideas.

When it comes to finding cheap travel vacation packages, the Internet can be a pretty handy tool. With the influx of demand from consumers, more and more websites are developed to handle the ever growing needs of those looking to take an affordable vacation. Finding the best possible deals can be done in a number of ways, without having to enlist the help of a travel agent. In fact, if you have just a little spare time and access to the Internet you might find yourself booked for a trip before you know it.

Flexibility Is A Big Advantage

If you have a lot of flexible times to travel then this will open up many great travel deals since different times of the year and last minute offers are always available. Non peak travel bookings can be as high as 50 percent off depending where you are planning to go. Taking a vacation in a lower priced vacation area instead of the most popular destinations will also help with reducing vacation costs.

Make A List Of Your Holiday Desires

Listing the activities you want to accomplish on your holiday is a great way to stay organized and feel fulfilled that you did everything possible during the trip. You may want to check out the local beaches, historical spots, boat tours, local attractions and the list goes on. A wish list of places you would like to see will add to a great holiday and save you from guessing what to do next.

Look For Less Formal Accommodations

If you are open to adventure, you might be able to save even more money on cheap travel vacation packages. Consider staying at an eco lodge or finding a hostel near the ocean somewhere for example. You can still find most amenities like hot showers, Internet access and sometimes even television when staying in these kinds of accommodations but you won’t have to worry about paying an arm and a leg just to have a roof over your head and a bed to lie on at night.

The Benefits Of Finding Last Minute Deals

If you are able to go on vacation on a whim, consider looking for cheap travel vacation packages at the last minute. Many times you can find packages that haven’t been sold and the companies are willing to give deep discounts to get the packages sold. For example, you might find a trip to Florida that comes complete with a three star hotel, right next to the water and yet pretty close to all the big attractions like Disney World, and you might be able to save at least half of the previous going price for the package.

Utilizing The Best Websites

Since we know there are many cheap travel packages all over the internet you want to make sure you are using the best resources. You do not want to get drawn in by the hype from a travel website saying their deals are the one and only answer. One place to check for a deal is the airlines themselves.

They may be much cheaper than travel websites who are acting as the middle contact and making a commission causing a spike in the final bill. You just need to do your research, compare prices and make a conservative choice on who you wish to deal with when planning your next vacation.

There is more to cheap travel than booking and research from home. Ask destination locals about attractions for less. The first thing that you should keep organized is the tickets of your travel and your hotel receipt. I hope you can use this information and find cheap travel packages that will suit your needs and desires.
